Fred Tattersall Chairman

As Chairman of 1607 Capital Partners, Fred helps to set the overall strategic direction of the firm’s investment portfolio, calling on his considerable experience and expertise in the closed end fund field. Fred retired as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tattersall Advisory Group (TAG) in June 2004. TAG managed $18.1 billion in assets and served a diverse group of institutional and individual clients. While at TAG, Fred established and built the closed-end-fund model that is now at the core of 1607 Capital’s approach. He also hired the team that now makes up 1607′s investment team. Since retiring from TAG in 2004, Fred has remained actively involved in his family’s portfolio while serving on several local investment committees. Fred is the recent past Chairman and currently serves on the Investment Committee of the University of Richmond’s Spider Management Group, responsible for the University’s multi-billion dollar endowment. Fred also serves on West Virginia University’s Foundation Board and is a member of the investment committee. Additionally, he is the founder and President of Richmond First Tee. He also serves on the National Trustee Board of The First Tee. Fred was elected to the Greater Richmond Business Hall of Fame in 2009.

Jim Mallory, CFA Managing Director of Investments

Jim leads the team responsible for the overall investment strategy of 1607 Capital. He also is an active trader and portfolio manager. Jim plays a key role in the firm’s client servicing and marketing functions. Jim held a similar position at Tattersall Advisory Group since 1992 before leaving to become a partner at 1607 Capital. Prior to that, he was a Business Relationship Officer and manager for Central Fidelity Bank. Jim has been awarded his CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation and is a member of the CFA Virginia. Jim received a BA in economics from William & Mary in 1988.

Shannon Fake, CFA Managing Director of Research

Shannon is responsible for implementing 1607 Capital’s overall closed-end-fund strategy through research, active trading and portfolio construction. He is responsible for research and analysis, specializing in international equity funds with an emphasis on London-listed investment trusts. Shannon held a similar position at Tattersall Advisory Group since 1994 before leaving to become a partner at 1607 Capital. He has been awarded his CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation and is a member of the CFA Virginia. Shannon graduated with a BS in Finance from Virginia Tech University in 1994.

Ashley Long, CFA Managing Director of Trading

Ashley is responsible for developing investment recommendations for 1607 Capital’s overall investment strategy, and oversees the trading for all closed-end fund products. Ashley held a similar role at Tattersall Advisory Group since 1999 and previously held positions at Carroll Financial Associates and Wheat First Butcher Singer. Ashley has been awarded his CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation and is a member of the CFA Virginia. Ashley has also been awarded his CMT (Chartered Market Technician) designation and is a member of the Market Technicians Association. He graduated with a BS in business administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Richmond in 1993.

Kirk Tattersall Managing Director of Operations & Marketing

As Director of Operations and Marketing for 1607 Capital, Kirk is responsible for all external marketing efforts as well as all back-office functions performed at the firm. Since 2004 Kirk has been the Managing Director at Bulldog Advisors, responsible for the management and investment policies of a family office with over $100 million in assets. Prior to joining Bulldog Advisors, Kirk held a number of positions in both the non-profit sector and the investment management business. Kirk obtained his MBA from the Darden School of Business at The University of Virginia in 2004 and his BBA in Finance from the University of Georgia in 1997.

Bryan Huntley, CPA Controller

Bryan is responsible for the financial and accounting functions of the firm as well as assisting with all back-office functions. Bryan is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA). Prior to joining 1607 Capital Partners, Bryan spent 10 years as an auditor with the public accounting firm, Cherry, Bekaert & Holland L.L.P. Bryan served as a senior manager whose clients included SEC registrants, registered investment advisors, financial institutions, and broker-dealers. Bryan received his BS degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech University in 1997.
